Expert Opinion

A 2 bottle adhesive with a multimode primer makes a lot of sense to us. This has been our 'go to' two bottle system for over 5 years. Single-bottle universals co-formulate hydrophilic and hydrophobic components — a compromise that degrades bond durability over time as water uptake increases in the set adhesive layer. G2-BOND separates them deliberately: the 1-Primer is hydrophilic and penetrates dentine effectively; the 2-Bond is genuinely hydrophobic and seals over it, producing a 35µm bonding layer that resists hydrolytic breakdown. That thicker layer also acts as a stress buffer in high C-factor posterior cavities — particularly useful under bulk-fill composites. HEMA-free throughout, which removes the main driver of long-term bond discolouration and is increasingly helpful for allergies.

Features & Benefits

Dual-H Technology — Hydrophilic Primer, Hydrophobic Bond 1-Primer penetrates and wets dentine effectively; 2-Bond seals over it with a genuinely hydrophobic layer. Keeping them separate maintains the chemistry of each until application — in a single bottle they coexist in a compromised equilibrium that increases water sorption and accelerates bond degradation over time.
HEMA-Free Formulation HEMA is present in the majority of universal adhesives and is the primary driver of water uptake, hydrolytic breakdown, and long-term bond discolouration. Removing it from both bottles improves marginal seal durability — most relevant in posterior restorations under cyclic occlusal load over years.
35µm Stress-Absorbing Bond Layer Thicker than single-bottle universals by design. SiO₂ fillers dispersed throughout the set layer give it mechanical properties approaching a flowable composite — flexural strength and wear resistance that cushion polymerisation shrinkage stress, particularly in deep Class II restorations and bulk-fill placements.
Triple Monomer System — 4-MET, MDP, MDTP MDP in the 1-Primer only (deliberately excluded from 2-Bond to avoid increasing hydrophilicity of the seal layer) handles enamel, dentine, zirconia, and non-precious metals. 4-MET adds ionic adhesion to calcium in dentine and enamel. MDTP — absent from most competitors — is the only monomer that bonds chemically to precious metals.
